TOUR DESCRIPTION

Day 1 - Doi Suthep Temple and Hmong village
On pick up from your Chiang Mai hotel we will make our way to the base of Doi Pui Mountain where the road starts to wind its way up towards the temple. You will be dropped at the base of the temple then you will need to make your own way up to the temple under your own steam, most will take the famous naga staircase featuring 306 steps! well worth the effort if you are energetic enough. For those who feel they can not tackle the stairs then there is a lift option which will get you there for a small extra charge. The main feature of this temple is the large central golden chedi which sits in the middle of the main compound as well as it's elevated mountain top location. Walking around to the east side of the temple outside the main compound there is a platform which allows stunning views across the whole city and beyond. Following the temple we will continue further up the mountain to a Hmong village, although well visited by foreign tourists you will still get to see a glimpse of Hmong hill tribe life

Day 2 - Chiang Rai with Karen long Neck
Be prepared for an early start as there will be a lot of ground to cover on this one day Chiang Rai tour from Chiang Mai! At 07:30am we will depart Chiang Mai and make our way north out of Chiang Mai to the province of Chiang Rai. Our first stop of the day will be at Mae Kha Jan hot springs this is a stop to break up the longish journey and here you can see the natural hot springs which surface in this area. Feel free to boil an egg in the hot spring water or dip your feet before we board the bus to continue the journey to the second stop of the day at Wat Rong Khun (White Temple). Wat Rong Khun was recently damaged by an earthquake but is still worth the stop and restoration work is well underway! We will then make the drive to Thailand's top north and the to the famous Golden Triangle here you will be able to stand at the view point over the Mekong River and see both Myanmar (Burma) and Laos while standing in Thailand. At the golden Triangle you can take the option of taking a long tail boat over to the Laos side where you will be able to visit a small tourist market. For those who do not take the boat ride option then they can visit a small museum detailing the opium poppy drug trade which once flourished in the golden triangle area. Following The Golden Triangle we will take a stop in Mae Sai which is the main border town between Myanmar, here you can visit the border market. On the return back to Chiang Mai we will stop to see the Karen Long Neck and Akha hill tribe.

Day 3 - Trekking, whitewater rafting with Elephant Care

After pick up from your Chiang Mai hotel we will drive north out of Chiang Mai towards the town of Mae Tang. After turning off the main highway we will proceed towards the Mae Tang River and the home of the elephants. On arrival at the elephant camp you will be introduced to the elephants and will get the chance to feed these hungry animals. Along with bath time this is probably one of the elephants highlights of the day !! During the morning you will get time to know the elephants and learn about their behaviors you will also get the chance to make some elephant medicine and a home made scrubber ready for the elephants scrub up. The mornings elephant activities will end with the elephants bath time where you will take the elephants into the river for their daily bath, wear your swim suit as you will get wet!!. After the elephants you will take a simple lunch before embarking on the afternoons trek. You will trek following a small jungle stream until you reach a cascading waterfall where you are welcome to cool off and take a shower in the cascading waters. You will trek back out of the jungle to the waiting vehicle which will take you on the short drive to the rafting camp. After a brief safety briefing you will jump in the rubber rafts for the 5km trip down the Mae Tang River/. At the end of the whitewater you will change to bamboo rafts to take you along the last stretch of the river and the waiting vehicle which will transfer you back to Chiang Mai.
