TOUR DESCRIPTIONThis special elephant experience is brought to you by The Elephant Nature Park. The Elephant Nature Park has expanded its operations to persuade local hill tribe elephant owners to take their elephants out of service from the elephant riding (usually contacted by trekking and tour operators in Chiang Mai) and use the animals for more meaningful and elephant friendly activities. This experience takes place in the hills in the Mae Wang area near the Karen mahout's village. This is a great small group experience with well cared for elephants in a unique and beautiful setting. The day starts with pick up at your Chiang Mai hotel and you will be transported to the Mae Wang area. Please be ready for a bumpy ride as you will need to drive high into the hills on a dirt track to reach the village where the elephants live. On arrival you will have an introduction and the behavior and history of elephants in the north of Thailand as well as some information on elephants working in the tourism business and practices which are detrimental to the elephants health. Following the intro you will change into traditional Karen clothing and meet the elephants. One of the first task for the day will be to feed the elephants. These large animals consume a LOT of food. It will then be your turn to eat and you will be served with a tasty lunch. in the afternoon it will be time to spend time with the elephants and you will walk with them in the forest while they naturally forage for food you will get the chance to take them to their favorite mud pit where they love to get wet and dirty in the gooey mud. the mud pit will be followed by a trip to the river for the elephants bath time. The programme will end when we transport you back to Chiang Mai |

Groups
This tour is conducted as a group tour to depart we need a minimum of 1 persons booked on the tour. On a group tour you will join a group with others.Transport
Group tours - transport will be a modern comfortable air-conditioned minibus to Mae Wang then you will change to seated and covered pick up truck with bench seats for the ride off road up into the hills.Transfer
This tour includes transfer to and from your Chiang Mai hotel. Please be ready and waiting in the lobby of your hotel before the pick up time specified on your booking confirmation.
Please specify your hotel and its address on the booking form. If you do not have a hotel booked we can still process your booking but please inform us of your hotel at least 3 days prior to departure. Please note that this tour can pick up from city hotels only and can not pick up from resorts outside the city.

This tour is conducted with an English speaking guide. The guides will be TAT licensed (Tourist Authority of Thailand) Insurance
A limited amount of accident insurance is provided to cover some medical bills in case of an injury but it is advised that you have your own comprehensive accident insurance.Elephant welfare
The elphants residing at this Karen village Blugecko believe the Karen elephant owners provide a good standard of elephant welfare and the elephants get to reside a a very natural environment:
• The Elephant Nature park do not allow riding (including bareback) and report that they do not use the bull hook to control thier elephants
Dress Codes and what to wear
• The Northern Thailand climate is hot all year round. Wear light, cool clothes: Shorts (or long pants if you prefer), T shirt and a sun hat are ideal attire, also bring a change of clothes you will be happy to get wet in as you will be bathing with the elephants

There is no compulsory tipping. Tipping is at your own discretion and choice, but if you felt that you were served by the guide and driver well during your trip any extra income is gratefully received.
